As the highlight of the presidency the Annual Forum 2017 of the EU Alpine Strategy took place on 23 and 24 November 2017 in the Munich BMW Welt. During the Annual Forum, the presidency together with the political representatives of the member states and regions presented the implementation measures undertaken during the Bavarian presidency to the public, were engaged in discussions with citizens, associations, businesses, municipalities and institutions, and give an outlook on the future implementation of the Strategy.
During the Annual Forum, there was a large Citizens’ Forum open to the general public, with numerous opportunities for information and participation.
On 2 October 2017, State Minister Ulrike Scharf invited the environment ministers of the EUSALP member states and regions to a conference in Munich. The conference aimed to establish the Alps as a European model region for Green Infrastructure.
On 10 May 2017, the Bavarian State Government has hosted a meeting of the „Friends of EUSALP“-Group in the European Parliament at the Bavarian Representation in Brussels. The aim of the event was to discuss the Bavarian positions on how to better embed the macroregional strategies into the EU financial framework post 2020 with representatives from the European institutions.
On 14 and 15 February 2017, a Forum of the nine Action Groups of the EU Alpine Strategy took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Action Groups are responsible for the concrete implementation of the objektives and actions of the Strategy. During the Action Group Forum, first measures were taken to translate the political priorities adopted by the EUSALP General Assembly in Rottach-Egern on 13 February 2017 into concrete project proposals and measures and to coordinate the long-term activities concerning the implementation of the Strategy. Representatives of current projects funded by the INTERREG Alpine Space Programme attended the Forum as well, in order to create synergy effects between already existing activities and new action approaches in the Alpine Region.
On 13 February 2017, the first General Assembly of the EU Alpine Strategy under Bavarian presidency convened in Rottach-Egern. The General Assembly is constituted by the Ministers for European Affairs of the participating states and regions as well as the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Creţu.
The aim of the General Assembly on 13 February 2017 was to set the political priorities for the activities of the Action Groups over the coming years. At the same time, the General Assembly addressed open questions on the structure of the cooperation (governance).
The concrete implementation of the political priorities adopted by the General Assembly will began a day later, in the Action Group Forum on 14 and 15 February 2017.
On 29 November 2016, the cornerstones of the work programme for the Bavarian presidency were presented to an interested public during an evening event in the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union in Brussels.
The political priorities for the thematic focuses of the Strategy were then discussed with experts from businesses, associations and European institutions.
The priorities outlined in the work programme were subsequently adopted by the General Assembly of the EU Alpine Strategy’s member states and regions during its first meeting under Bavarian presidency on 13 February 2017.
